Dr Mehasseb graduated from Cairo University (Egypt) in 1997 and completed specialist training in Gynaecology in Egypt, the United Kingdom and France. He subsequently specialised in Gynaecological Oncology (Cancer). In the NHS, he was appointed as a full-time Consultant Gynaecological Surgeon and Oncologist at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 2012. His training in different countries and settings provided him with a rich clinical, surgical and academic experience. He has a vast experience in managing different gynaecological problems especially pre-cancerous and cancer conditions.
His surgical expertise is wide and he has special interest in minimal access or key-hole surgery, using this technique to minimise the impact of surgery. He has lectured nationally and internationally on laparoscopic surgery and has run many training courses.
He has numerous publications and authored numerous book chapters. He has been awarded a number of educational, travel and research grants and awards. He has presented multiple abstracts, oral and poster presentations in different national and international scientific society meetings and conferences.
He is a member of a number of professional societies including the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, British Gynaecological Cancer Society, British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, European Society of Gynaecological Oncology, and the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy.
Dr Mehasseb has particular research interest in the early detection/treatment of cancer of the womb and the ovaries. He held a number of research appointments including a Lecturership at the University of Leicester. He completed his MD on the use of ultrasound and hysteroscopy in the detection of womb cancer. He also completed a PhD degree researching treatments for heavy/painful periods. He has been invited to present his work at multiple national and international scientific society meetings.
Dr Mehasseb was awarded a Visiting Training Fellowship in Laparoscopic Surgery to the world renowned Centre International de Chirurgie Endoscopique (International centre for gynaecological endoscopy), CHU Polyclinique de L’Hotel-Dieu, Clermont-Ferrand, France (2009). He has further been awarded the prestigious Ethicon Travel Award from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist, London, UK. Dr Mehasseb has also been awarded a number of Ethicon Endo-Surgery Educational Grants.
Dr Mehasseb has numerous publications in international journals including ‘Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology’, ‘ Obstetrics and Gynecology International’, ‘Fertility and Sterility’, ‘Obstetric and Gynecologic Investigation’ and ‘Reproduction’. He has also authored a number of book chapters on subjects including endometrial cancer, benign womb conditions, vaginal cancer, and laparoscopic and open surgery techniques.

Dr Mehasseb is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He has lectured nationally and internationally on laparoscopic surgery and has run many training courses. He is delighted to receive requests for talks and seminars offered to GPs and other colleagues or societies.
